Katherine Bowers

Dr. Katherine Bowers is a registered nurse and nurse educator whose work bridges clinical practice, teaching, and research to improve the well-being of older adults. She earned her PhD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and brings more than 15 years of clinical experience caring for adults with complex psychiatric and chronic health needs. She spent the majority of her clinical career at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she cared for older adults in geriatric psychiatry and chronic pain settings. These experiences continue to shape her holistic, person-centered approach to care and education.

Dr. Bowers is a dedicated educator whose teaching emphasizes the integration of pathophysiology, assessment, and clinical decision-making, while fostering reflective practice, ethical care, and the development of professional identity. She is deeply committed to mentorship and works closely with students across classroom, clinical, and simulation settings to support their growth as confident, compassionate, and justice-oriented nurses.

Her research focuses on loneliness and social connection in older adulthood, with particular attention to sexual and gender diverse populations. Through her work, Dr. Bowers seeks to center marginalized voices and inform inclusive, equity-focused approaches that promote connection, health, and well-being in later life.
