Hannah Murphy Buc, PhD, RN, is Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean for Professional Practice and Direct Entry Pathways at the Georgetown University Berkley School of Nursing. She joined BSON in 2026, bringing a breadth of experience as an academic program director and as the founder and inaugural director of the Restorative Practices Program at University of Maryland Baltimore School of Nursing.
She has established clinical, teaching, and research expertise in the care of vulnerable populations receiving palliative care. Her dissertation research produced a grounded theory of receiving hospice and palliative care for homeless or vulnerably housed individuals. Clinically, Hannah has worked in surgical intensive care, and has taught clinically across settings in adult care, ranging from intensive care to home hospice to outpatient clinics.
In her work with students and patients, Hannah seeks opportunities to build a more just and equitable healthcare system where people, rather than profits, are the driving motivation for excellence in clinical care. Hannah uses her skills as a restorative practices facilitator to build an inclusive community that helps members create a sense of belonging and support, and where conflict and harm can be managed in reparative ways – seeking collective movement toward social, racial, economic, individual, and institutional healing.
