(January 27, 2026) — The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) selected Melody Wilkinson, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, professor in the Berkley School of Nursing, as recipient of a 2026 AANP State Award for Outstanding Contributions.
The award honors individuals who have made significant strides in advancing health care through practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership (PEARL), and have demonstrated efforts to advance the image, profile and visibility of nurse practitioners.
Wilkinson was tapped for her work in West Virginia, where for almost a decade she has dedicated her efforts to forging relationships and growing Georgetown’s presence. Part of that work has included leading and coordinating an experiential learning course in Clay County, West Virginia, where students gain a deeper understanding of rural health disparities.
Wilkinson said she is deeply honored to be recognized for the work she continues to do in her home state.
“This work has only been possible through true partnership — with the communities where the work is done, and with incredible colleagues and students at Georgetown University Berkley School of Nursing. I am deeply grateful to be part of teams grounded in shared purpose, trust and collective impact.”
Berkley School of Nursing Dean Roberta Waite, EdD, RN, PMHCNS, ANEF, FADLN, FAAN, congratulated Wilkinson for her “extraordinary contributions” to the profession and to Georgetown and the Berkley School of Nursing.
“Dr. Wilkinson’s selection as the 2026 West Virginia State Award for Outstanding Contributions recipient is a powerful testament to her visionary leadership, steadfast advocacy, and deep commitment to advancing nurse practitioner practice and health equity. This well-deserved recognition reflects the meaningful partnerships she builds with communities, colleagues and students, and the lasting impact of her PEARL-driven work.” Wilkinson will be honored in June at the 2026 AANP National Conference.
