(April 27, 2026) Roxanne Mirabal-Beltran, PhD, RN, assistant professor at Georgetown University’s Berkley School of Nursing, has been recognized as a Jesuit Network of Nursing Programs (JNNP) Exemplary Nursing Faculty for 2026, a national honor recognizing outstanding faculty across Jesuit institutions.

The award is presented by the Jesuit Network of Nursing Programs, a consortium of more than 20 Jesuit colleges and universities committed to advancing nursing education grounded in Jesuit values. A part of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, the JNNP recognizes faculty who demonstrate excellence in teaching and innovation in nursing education with a deep commitment to forming nurses who serve others with compassion and integrity.

Mirabal-Beltran is a nurse, researcher and educator whose work focuses on maternal health, health disparities and improving outcomes for underserved populations. Her scholarship examines structural and clinical factors that contribute to inequities, including the use of data and emerging technologies to improve early detection and care.

“Through your teaching, mentorship and leadership, you have consistently embodied cura personalis — care for the whole person — fostering in your students a deep sense of empathy, ethical responsibility and a call to serve,” the JNNP award letter states. “You have not only cultivated competent and compassionate nurses, but have also empowered them to become agents of justice, healing and hope in the world.”

Mirabal-Beltran has been a nurse and educator for close to three decades.

“This recognition is incredibly meaningful to me, because it reflects the values that drew me to nursing in the first place: service, justice and a deep commitment to community,” she said. “What I value most as an educator is the opportunity to learn alongside my students and community partners, and to work together to prepare nurses who are not only clinically strong, but truly equipped to advance equity and improve the lives of the communities they serve. And I also received it on my dad’s birthday. Being recognized for work that would make him proud truly fills my cup!”

Roberta Waite, EdD, PMHCNS, ANEF, FAAN, dean of the Berkley School of Nursing, noted the countless students and colleagues that Mirabal-Beltran has inspired.

“Dr. Mirabal-Beltran’s impact as a nurse educator reflects commitment, compassion, and excellence,” Waite said. “This recognition is truly fitting.”
