Two Georgetown Nursing Faculty Named Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing
(July 7, 2026) — The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) selected two faculty members from Georgetown University’s Berkley School of Nursing as Fellows, one of the highest honors in the nursing profession.
Christina X. Marea, PhD, MA, FACNM, and Rebecca O. Shasanmi Ellis, PhD, RN, are among the academy’s 2026 Class of Fellows, recognized for their sustained contributions to improving health and advancing the nursing profession through research, education, leadership and practice.

“Dr. Christina Marea and Dr. Rebecca Ellis exemplify the leadership, scholarship, and commitment to service that define Georgetown nursing,” said Roberta Waite, EdD, PMHCNS, RN, MSN, ANEF, FAAN, dean of the Berkley School of Nursing. “Dr. Marea’s work advancing reproductive justice and maternal health equity, alongside Dr. Ellis’ research on health workforce development and global mental health disparities, exemplifies the kind of scholarship that transforms lives and strengthens communities far beyond our campus. Their election to the American Academy of Nursing is a well-deserved honor that recognizes their extraordinary contributions to the profession and reflects the excellence, impact and mission of Georgetown’s Berkley School of Nursing.”
The American Academy of Nursing announced the 2026 class on June 25. The new Fellows will be inducted during the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, October 8-10 in Washington, D.C.
The American Academy of Nursing Fellowship includes more than 3,600 nurse leaders whose work advances health policy and practice through leadership, innovation and science. Fellows are selected through a rigorous review process that recognizes extraordinary contributions to nursing and health care at the local, national and global levels.
