Berkley School of Nursing Graduate Student Awarded Scholarship for Providing Care to Underserved Patients

Alexandra (“Alex”) Jones (G’25)
(September 24, 2025) — Alexandra (“Alex”) Jones (G’25), BSN, RN, a BSN-DNP and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) graduate student in Georgetown’s Berkley School of Nursing, has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the CVS Foundation. The BSON Scholarships and Awards Committee selected Jones for her work in providing care to underserved populations as a float nurse in the single regional hospital in Alamance County, North Carolina.
“At our community hospital we treat everyone, and we see a lot of patients with chronic conditions that are not well managed, such as a diabetes patient who has run out of insulin and is now in crisis,” said Jones.
As part of her graduate studies, Jones is also researching how providing reliable transportation for pregnant and postpartum patients in rural Kenya could improve health outcomes.
“Applying for the CVS scholarship provided the opportunity for self-reflection in thinking about how what you have done so far will impact what kind of future provider you will be,” said Jones. “I’m passionate about extending health care to people who can’t easily access care, and want to continue this work in the future.”
