Michael Clarke, DNP, MBA, RN, NPD-BC, NEA-BC, CPHQ, is an Assistant Professor at the Georgetown University School of Nursing (GUSON).
Dr. Clarke joined the School of Nursing in 2023. He completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice at The George Washington University. His research interests include healthcare quality improvement, transition into nursing professional practice, and nursing impact on health equity in the acute care setting. Dr. Clarke earned his BSN at Georgetown University and holds a Nursing Professional Development and Nurse Executive Advanced certification from the American Nursing Credentialing Center. He is also a Certified Professional in Health Care Quality. His commitment to professional development earned him recognition as an Aresty Scholar by the Aresty Institute of Executive Education at Wharton, University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Clarke has over a decade of experience in nursing leadership and has held senior positions at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a large teaching hospital in the nation’s capital. His tenure there witnessed the design and implementation of evidence-based educational programs and the successful accreditation and re-accreditation of the New to Practice Nurse Residency Program by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Dr. Clarke’s contribution to nursing education in the acute care setting also includes the expanded utilization of high-fidelity simulation and the modernization of state-of-the-art clinical simulation spaces. Additionally, his clinical and leadership experience includes a variety of cardiac nursing sub-specialties.
Dr. Clarke utilizes his robust experience in the practice setting to inform his pedagogical approach and enrich the learning experience for students. His teaching philosophy emphasizes not only the mastery of clinical skills but also the cultivation of critical thinking, leadership acumen, and a deep sense of compassion.
