Kwuan Paruchabutr

Dr. Paruchabutr (pronouns she/her/hers) is an Army Nurse Corps combat veteran with a tour to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004. She holds triple board certifications as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, and a Certified Nurse-Midwife. She has been practicing as an advanced practice clinician since 2010, primarily serving the military population. Her multi-specialty skills and insight have allowed her to serve the women’s military population across the spectrum of healthcare.

She has been a consultant to numerous organizations and has nationally presented on trauma-informed care. Her work and contribution to multi-disciplinary national councils, task forces, roundtable discussions, and working groups have advanced women’s and gender-related healthcare. She is passionate about impacting women's national and global health policies. She is an advocate for increasing access to trauma-informed care.

She has served on the steering committee for the National Institutes of Health and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation: Women’s Health Research and Development Innovation Equity Forum. She has given oral testimony to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): Lead and Copper Rules Regulation Association Roundtable and to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in support of the over-the-counter Opill access, which historically received approval by the FDA in July 2023. She has served on the Midwifery Regulatory Structure Workgroup and Certified Midwife Regulatory Authority Practice Workgroup for the Virginia Department of Health. Her appointment to the Advisory Committee of the Virginia Joint Board of Nursing and Medicine in 2021 has been crucial for representing Nurse-Midwives within the Commonwealth of Virginia. She was inducted as a fellow to the American College of Nurse-Midwives in 2021.

Dr. Paruchabutr was elected as President-elect of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH) in 2022. She is the first Asian-American to serve in this role for the organization. As Co-Chair of the Advocacy and Government Affairs committee for NPWH, she advocates for the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) to include the scope of practice and highlight their specialty areas, including high-risk and complex maternal health, reproductive health, and perimenopause/menopause care. She has led several amicus briefs to protect the WHNP’s scope of practice and other advanced practice clinicians within women's and gender-related healthcare. 

Dr. Paruchabutr is an accomplished Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse-Midwife widely recognized for her passion for advancing women's and gender-related healthcare through a diverse, equitable, and inclusive lens. With a passion for the veteran population and women’s health, she has been invited to share insights and expertise as a keynote speaker at the Syracuse University Student Veteran Commencement Ceremony in May 2023. She is known for sharing her wisdom and tying her experiences within the military during wartime as a trauma nurse, advanced practice clinician, colleague, mother, friend, and military spouse.
