Video: Nurses Week 2021 Conversation with NINR Director Dr. Shannon Zenk

May 21, 2021 – On May 12, the last day of National Nurses Week and Florence Nightingale’s birthday, Dr. Shannon Zenk joined a virtual conversation with Georgetown’s nursing leaders Dr. Ladan Eshkevari, Dr. Mary Haras, and Dr. Edilma Yearwood.

Zenk, who is the director of the National Institute of Nursing Research, discussed her research, the role of nurses in advancing health equity and addressing the social determinants of health, and the National Institutes of Health’s UNITE Initiative, which seeks to address and end structural racism.

Eshkevari, who directs the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program, Haras, who is chair of the Department of Advanced Nursing Practice, and Yearwood, who is chair of the Department of Professional Nursing Practice, participated in the virtual conversation. The three organized a conversation series for National Nurses Week 2021, including with Zenk, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, and Dr. Melody Wilkinson.
