Nurse Executive in Residence Named CNO of Overarching Nursing Organization

(April 9, 2025) — The American Nurses Enterprise announced the appointment of Georgetown Nurse Executive in Residence, Bradley (Brad) Goettl, DNP, DHA, RN, FNP-C, FAAN, as its new chief nursing officer, effective April 21, 2025. The American Nurses Enterprise includes the American Nurses Association, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Nurses Foundation.
“I am honored to assume the role of Chief Nursing Officer at the American Nurses Enterprise”, said Goettl. “I look forward to relocating to Washington, DC, and working with the faculty and students in the Georgetown community, particularly in the areas of nursing leadership and health policy.”
Most recently, Goettl served as the interim co-executive director and chief clinical officer of the Emergency Nurses Association. Prior to his role at ENA, Goettl served as the director of Advanced Practice Provider Fellowships Programs at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Goettl joined the School of Nursing as one of seven inaugural Nurse Executives in Residence in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in 2025.
“Brad’s forward-looking perspectives, unwavering passion, his contributions within membership associations and professional development programs, and his national and international perspectives make him a perfect fit for this strategic executive leadership role,” said American Nurses Enterprise Chief Executive Officer Angela Beddoe. “The chief nursing officer amplifies the shared priorities and advocates for unified solutions for all nurses.”
Goettl holds a wide-range of specialty certifications reflecting his commitment to ongoing professional development and formal credentialing as a certified emergency nurse (CEN) and emergency nurse practitioner (ENP-C), adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP-BC), certified flight registered nurse (CFRN), and as an emergency medical technician – paramedic (EMT-P). He also holds fellowship designations with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP), Academy of Emergency Nursing (FAEN), American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), and the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN).
“We are thrilled to congratulate Dr. Goettl and welcome him to Washington, DC.”, said Stephan Davis, DNP, MHSA, NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE, ANEF, FAAN, executive director and associate professor for leadership, policy, and DNP education. “Dr. Goettl’s leadership role at the American Nurses Enterprise will enhance the real-world insights on policy-shaping and legislative action that our Executive DNP students will have unparalleled access to given our location in Washington and our esteemed Nurse Executives in Residence.”
The School of Nursing’s Nurse Executives in Residence program serves as a unique collaboration between experts in nursing leadership and health-care transformation and the post-master’s Executive Doctor of Nursing Practice in Health Systems Leadership and Policy degree program. The inaugural seven DNP-prepared nurse executives provide their expertise by offering contributions to the program through lectures for Executive DNP courses, exclusive talks for the broader DNP learning community (including faculty, preceptors, and alumni), and focused mentoring for exceptional Executive DNP students.
