American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology Honors Carrie Bowman Dalley
(December 17, 2025) — The American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) selects Carrie Bowman Dalley, PhD, MS, CRNA, FAANA, program director of the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program at the Berkley School of Nursing, as its Didactic Instructor of the Year. She’ll receive the award during an AANA conference in February.

The Didactic Instructor of the Year Award honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to the classroom teaching of registered resident nurse anesthetists, and recognizes “commitment to the profession of nurse anesthesiology and to the advancement of educational standards that further the art and science of anesthesiology and result in high-quality patient care.”
“I am extremely honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award,” said Bowman Dalley, an associate professor at the nursing school. “I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to teach the next generation of CRNAs.”
According to the AANA, one of her nominations said, “Dr. Bowman Dalley has an effortless way of challenging her students to expand their understanding of complex concepts, while supporting and encouraging the process of learning.” AANA said one of her students described Bowman Dalley’s innovative approach to education, writing she “continues to set the standard for educators due to her passion for anesthesia education, personal connection with students, and individualized approach to teaching challenging topics in a clear and effective manner.”
“This AANA recognition is a powerful testament to Dr. Bowman Dalley’s exceptional impact on our program, our students, and the profession of nurse anesthesiology,” said Roberta Waite, EdD, RN, PMHCNS, ANEF, FADLN, FAAN, dean of the Berkley School of Nursing. “The award honors her rare ability to translate deep expertise into compelling, rigorous instruction that truly resonates with students. Dr. Bowman Dalley sets the benchmark for excellence in the classroom, advances the profession on a national stage, and demonstrates an unwavering commitment to student success and the delivery of high-quality patient care.”
During the transition of Georgetown University’s nurse anesthesia program to a doctoral degree program, Bowman Dalley developed and implemented the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program pharmacology curriculum and refined the DNAP scholarly project course sequence, streamlining the process for students to improve their achievement levels through courses that were innovative in their approach to design, instruction and assessment.
Bowman Dalley serves on the AANA Journal Editorial Panel and served as vice chair of the Georgetown University School of Nursing Executive Faculty from 2022-2024. She was inducted as a fellow of the AANA in 2025 and presents regularly on pharmacology- based topics at the state and national level.
