Georgetown Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program Director Named ‘Star Nurse’
July 29, 2020 – Dr. Ladan Eshkevari, who directs the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program at the School of Nursing & Health Studies, is being honored as a “Star Nurse,” a recognition cosponsored by the American Nurses Association and the Washington Post.
“Nominated by patients and peers, and then selected as finalists from among hundreds of nominees, these women and men, working on the front lines of health care in D.C., Maryland and Virginia, represent the epitome of skill, professionalism and care,” the newspaper said in announcing the finalists.
As a Star Nurse, Eshkevari will be featured in a special magazine supplement to the Post in early September, as well as at a virtual celebration that month. At the celebratory event, six Nightingale Award winners – named in honor of nurse pioneer Florence Nightingale – will be announced from the more than 90 Star Nurse finalists.
‘So Honored’
“To be honest, the biggest honor in all of this is that I was chosen by my peers, and that to me speaks volumes,” Eshkevari said. “To be thanked by patients or students is definitely a huge motivator to do better and be at the top of my game, but to be recognized by my colleagues is the pinnacle of my achievements. I am so honored, and extremely humbled.”
Eshkevari is a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), and licensed acupuncturist (LAc).
“Congratulations to Dr. Eshkevari,” said Dr. Carole Roan Gresenz, interim dean of the School of Nursing & Health Studies. “During more than two decades at Georgetown, Dr. Eshkevari has helped build and transform nurse anesthesia education. I am happy to see her body of work being honored in such a visible way.”
The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) also congratulated Eshkevari.
“The AANA is proud that one of our members, Dr. Eshkevari, was chosen by her peers in the ANA for this prestigious honor,” said AANA President Kate Jansky.
