The distance-based, online Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program is a Master of Science in Nursing (MS) program designed for registered nurses (RNs) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or CNL/entry-level MS in Nursing who are interested in primary care, promoting health and preventing disease. Students can choose between full- and part-time enrollment on this program, depending on what best suits their needs. Once certified, graduates of Georgetown’s FNP program are equipped to take on clinical leadership roles and provide family-centered primary care.

As students progress through Georgetown’s FNP program, they are prepared to acquire the competencies to assess and manage common acute and chronic illnesses, promote health and wellness, and prevent disease. Through a blend of asynchronous didactic content, synchronous class sessions, and in-person Objective Clinical Intensives (OCIs), this distance-based, online FNP prepares APRNs to pursue board certification and credentialing

• Develop specialized skills during live distance-based, online classes (HD streamed), informed by interactive content and unfolding case studies
• At Objective Clinical Intensives (OCIs), practice interviewing and assessing with standardized patients and genitourinary teaching associates (GUTA), and develop specialized skills such as simple suturing.
• Learn to treat adult and pediatric patients during clinical placements at sites that meet Georgetown University’s high standards.

Distance-Based, Online Family Nurse Practitioner Program Admissions

Georgetown University School of Nursing offers the distance-based, online FNP specialization through the Master of Science degree in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice (BSN to DNP), and Post-Graduate Certificate programs. There are several start dates throughout the year, and as such, admissions to Georgetown take place on a rolling basis. Applicants must meet Georgetown University’s high standards regarding academic background, clinical experience, and leadership ability.

The admissions requirements for the master’s-level FNP program are:

• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) entry-level Master of Science in Nursing degree from a CCNE- or ACEN-accredited program
• Current U.S. registered nurse (RN) license
• Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 science GPA
• Successful completion (C or better) of a college-level, three-credit course in statistics within the past five years
